Incomparable

“To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One.” Isaiah 40:25

What have you seen that God has never seen? God has never seen His equal. The prophet Isaiah trumpets the incomparability of God. Human history is the outworking of God’s infinitely wise plan. The question proposed by the God of the universe is a stomach punch to inadequate human minds in their wrong thoughts about God. God is free to do what is consistent with HIs character. “He must be free to do whatever He wills to do anywhere at any time to carry out His eternal purpose in every single detail without interference” (A.W. Tozer). There are only three things that limit God: His character, our unbelief, and His purpose/plan. Israel, as we, needed to know that “Our thoughts of God are not great enough; we fail to reckon with the reality of his limitless wisdom and power. Because we ourselves are limited and weak, we imagine at some points God is too, and find it hard to believe that he is not” (J.I. Packer, Knowing God). We make a colossal mistake when we think God is like we are. Our best response to this reality in the midst of our turbulent and confused world is to worship the Lord God, the Creator, who is in absolute control of all the affairs of the human race.

Reflection:
Knowing that God is in charge, what are some ways we should think in the midst of the difficulties of life?
What is God teaching me right now?
