Christians understand that the word “gospel” means good news.  But what kind of good news is it?  Is the good news that God saves those who help themselves?  Is the good news that one needs to receive the grace of God through the sacraments of the church?  Is the good news that God has given us a marvelous example of love in the life and death of Jesus?  Is the goods news that we must take our cross and follow Jesus?  Is the good news that the powerful and wealthy must be brought down by the humble, poor people of this world?  If you want to know what the gospel is you will find the final word in the Book of Romans.
