“Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise.” C.H. Spurgeon. Proverbs was a text book for the youth of Israel. So it should be for our day. Wisdom is not being the smartest one in the room. Wisdom is the skill of living life according to the revealed will of God. Are you eager to know God’s will (Prov. 10:8, 14)? It begins by fearing God. This is the watershed between the wise and the foolish. Hating pride, arrogance, evil behavior, and perversion are boxes to be checked by those who are wisdom seekers. Are you a good listener (“a wise man listens to advice” Prov. 12:15)? No one is immune to self-deception, which can lead to the nearly hopeless state of having a hard heart. Are you teachable (“reprove a wise man and he will love you.” Prov. 9:8)? Are changes in your life for the better? Are you defensive? Is it time to ask God to make you more wise in His ways?
